Add Client Projects To Your Web Portfolio

Add Client Projects To Your Web Portfolio

When you add client projects to your web portfolio, you kill two birds with one stone: you build trust in your work, and you also increase your SEO rankings with search engines.  Today, I’ll show you how to add client projects to your web portfolio on the new website we’ve built for your small business.

Login to Your Website & Create A New Post

Log Into WordPressThe first thing you want to do is navigate to the back end of your website, using the link, login, and password provided to you.

Once you’ve logged into the back end, you’ll see the “WordPress Dashboard.” From here, you’ll navigate to the left side, where you’ll see “posts.” Hover over posts and select “Add New.”

When the page loads, you’ll see a spot here to give your project a name. If you’re a residential service business, to keep things neat and tidy on your site, we recommend that you name your projects with client’s last names. For commercial projects, you could use the business name and city, perhaps.

  • Next, select the project category you’d like to place the project into.
  • Next, select “Publish” in the top right corner.  The software will ask if you’re sure about that.  Just press it again.
  • Now, press “Edit with Elementor,” to get started adding details.

Setting A "Featured Image" for the Project

Add A Featured Image to Your ProjectOnce the page loads, click on this little folder icon, then select the insert button on the “Portfolio Template.” Then press apply.

Next, we’ll want to add a featured image for the project.  (If you haven’t already sized your images for upload, you should do that before proceeding.  If you need to know how to do this, here’s our post on how to do that.)  Also, here’s a link to PIXLR, where you can size your images properly for adding them to your client portfolio.

Once you’re certain that your featured image is the right shape and size, you can click the little gear at the lower left corner, then click just here, where it says “Featured Image.”  This will take you to your media library, where you can select an exiting image, or upload a new one.  We’re going to upload a new one, so click “upload files,” then “select” to navigate to where your image is stored on your local machine, and click “open”.   Now select the big green “Update” button to proceed.

Add Details to Your Project Post

Add Project Details

Now, we’ll just need to add some project details and additional photos, and we’ll be all set.  First, let’s put in some project details.

You can see that each of these project details is in a separate container.  Each container has a little pencil icon in the top right corner, and if you click that, the editing parameters open on the left.  Here, you can change the text details for this widget.

Simply click each of the widgets, to update their text.  Once you’ve completed the details, you can add additional photos to the project.

Add Images To Your Portfolio Post

Add Images to Portfolio Post SlidesTo add new photos to our project, click the pencil icon in the top right corner here, and on the left, we’ll see several “items,” where each item contains a photo.  Click “Item #1,” and change out the photo as we did before.  Next, click each item you want to change.  Note that, if you only want to upload 2 images, you can remove the additional item you don’t need, by clicking the “X” on the item.  Conversely, if you want to upload more images, you can simply duplicate an item by clicking the “Duplicate Item” button here.  To be sure that your pages load quickly, we recommend that you not go crazy with images here.  It’s probably best to not exceed 5 images.
